Social media facilitates the sharing of ideas, thoughts and information within networks and communities. But usually social media use at workplace wrap up with bad affects about productivity, demotivation and lack of concentration for the personnel at work.


There are plethora of  benefits for using social media at work. The most prominent  is boosting organisational productivity. Every company wants their business to grow and rise. So social media is a inexpensive and easy to implement method for increasing productivity. To cite an example, marketing companies are prefer to use social media for brand advertisements.

Furthermore, another critical aspects to be added in the advantages are it allows the employees to take a mental break, they can be more productive. Social media also enables the employees to make and support professional connections as well as strengthen their relations with their co-workers. It enhance the information discovery and delivery such as for communication among each other, most of people use "WhatsApp" at workplace for delivering or conveying their messages. 

Apart from the benefits, there are some issues associated with use of social media at workplace. Privacy breach is a major concern for not allowing use of social media at office. There are numerous opportunities to lose your privacy while using your social accounts. Other issue to be consider are addiction of social media affects your psychological wellbeing. In rare cases, it also make you prone to bullying and harassments. Social media contributes to decrease employee engagements.

These issues can be remedied according to the following rationale. Essentially, it is crucial to note below etiquettes:

  • Always be polite and professional in your posts.

  • Don't contribute to any malicious gossips or content.

  • If you find ant suspicious or harmful content to the appropriate person or company, just report.

  • Never share your personal information.

  • Always follow the organisational social media policy.

Agglomerating all the points above, it can be concluded that despite negative use of social media at workplace being desirable  according to some; it is undeniable that role of social media has become more benefits than drawbacks.
